With today’s technology, you probably have the necessities on your phone like the Facebook App, the Flashlight App, and Angry Birds. Have you wondered what apps are available and helpful for nurses and nursing students? Here are some of our picks for the top free mobile apps for nurses.

  • CliniCalc Medical Calculator – This is a free medical calculator. Test it to find the correct sodium for hyperglycemia, calculate body surface area and many other uses.
  • VisualDx – VisualDx allows you diagnosis ashes by simply inputting your findings and patient information. It can help to narrow down the possibilities and provides treatment information.
  • Epocrates and Epocrates CME – This app allows you to always have up-to-date drug information at your fingertips. The annual subscription version provides information on diseases, infections, pill identification, medical calculators and tables of pertinent, clinical information.

Nursing Central – Technically, this app isn’t free, so we didn’t include it in our list of top free apps. You need a subscription to Nursing Central, which comes out to about $160. However, this app is one of the most comprehensive of the ones we’ve seen. It carries Davis’s Drug Guide, Davis’s Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests, Diseases and Disorders, Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis, Medline journals and a Taber’s dictionary. It has access to a database of 5,000 drugs, a study system, and countless other resources.
